About Me

Hi I'm Samantha, usually known as Sam.

I'm a qualified teacher and therapist. I have an in depth knowledge of child development and work closely with parents, teachers and outside agencies to ensure the best outcome for children. I apply a cross theoretical, integrative and holistic therapeutic play approach and work non-directively, alongside the introduction of more directed interventions when appropriate. I have a deep respect for children, I'm warm and accepting.

I have experience of working therapeutically with children, who have a diverse range of emotional, behavioural, social and mental health difficulties. Including domestic violence, neglect, bereavement, separation, attachment, autism, selective mutism and anxiety. I offer a safe, confidential space for children to explore their experiences, allowing for self-expression and gentle exploration of difficulties whilst promoting independence, self-esteem and self-regulation.

I'm qualified with a Post Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills and a Post Graduate Diploma in Practice Based Play Therapy (APAC), both with distinction. In addition, I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). I have also completed an Advanced Professional Trauma course with PESI. I'm a certified Play Therapist with Play Therapy UK (PTUK), adhere to their ethical framework and fulfil continuing professional development requirements (CPD). I regularly attend supervision sessions, have an advanced DBS check, professional indemnity, public liability insurance, and I'm registered with the ICO for data protection purposes.

I am on the Register of Play and Creative Arts Therapists that has been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). This demonstrates my commitment to high professional standards, enhancing safety, and delivering a better service. This accreditation, set up by the PSA, aims to improve standards and safety for the benefit of the public, particularly children in my field of work.
